Welcome to the Corvallis-Albany Chapter of Lavender Womyn.  Lavender Womyn is a lesbian social group, which was originally started in Salem, Oregon, but grew so large that we have branched off into multiple chapters througout the country. Social Event at Riley's

Corvallis-Albany Lavender Womyn social at Rileys located at 124 Broadalbin St SW, Albany.  

Saturday January 30, 2010 from 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm.

Come have food and drinks, play pool and throw darts, if you want. We'll be in a separate party room, although it won't be "private" space.

Directions from Corvallis: Take Hwy 20 across the bridge into Albany. Turn right onto 1st Ave. Turn left onto Ferry (if you miss that, turn left onto Washington or Calapooia). Turn left onto 2nd Ave. Riley's is on the left, at the corner of 2nd and Broadalbin.

Corvallis Lesbian Fiction Book Group

The After 8 Book Group, also known as the Corvallis Lesbian Fiction Book Group, is open to all "Lavender Womyn." We meet in Corvallis women's homes from 7:00pm to about 9:00pm the first Thursday of every month, except July.

 

For our February meeting we're reading Memory Board by Jane Rule. This novel tells the story of a 65-year-old man who wants to re-engage with his lesbian twin sister, Diana, after a 40-year estrangement. He also expects his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren to engage with an aunt they never knew they had. Diana is still living with her partner of 40 years, who now has Alzheimer's disease (or some form of dementia). This book gives us deep insight into that disease, without being grim, and depicts a long-term relationship that's intriguingly outside the norm.

 

For our March meeting we're reading Wild Dogs: A Novel by Helen Humphreys.

Dog & People Walk (No Dog Required)

The Corvallis-Albany Lavender Womyn's group has a weekly dog and people walk rain or shine.  No dog required.  This weekly event has been going on for quite some time and their last dog and people walk had 7 women and about 10 dogs show up.  Remember, they walk rain or shine, so don't let the weather discourage you from attending.  If you like to walk and socialize, then this is the event for you.

They meet every Sunday from 1:30pm - 3:00pm at the Willamette Park off Crystal Lake drive in Corvallis.  Meet by the boulders at the soccer field entrance (yellow gate).

Directions: Going south on 3rd/Hwy 99, turn left at Crystal Lake Dr. (There's a traffic light there.) The next street where you can turn left is Fischer Drive. Turn left. That road takes you down to the parking lot.

With the arrival of Fall and the upcoming holidays ahead of us, the topic of food is never far behind!  We will be beginning again with our culinary gatherings at a new restaurant Bamboo Cafe in Albany.  This restaurant is the latest venture of the chef/owner of Sybaris.  Bamboo Cafe features Asian-fusion dishes to entice the palate.  There is a full menu as well as appetizers.
